Color, which could already be seen in the watercolors and in some of the New York photographs, attains a unique vibration in the streets of Salvador. At once exasperated and restrained, color is body, architecture, nature. It incites contrasts but contains the luminous intensity. There is no question that Cravo Neto is one of the greatest masters of color in the history of Brazilian contemporary art. From Bahia (1980) to Laroyé (2000), his photobooks highlight the quality of his work with colors and his awareness of rhythm in the composition of the pages.
